One of the secrets to keeping skin honestly beautiful and clear? Wash your makeup brushes every week with these 4 super-simple steps. Trust us, it’s a habit worth making!
It’s officially spring and tis the season to tidy our closets and declutter our homes. And yes, our beauty tools deserve some attention, too. Most of us, however, skimp on keeping brushes squeaky clean. A recent Harris Poll study showed that 39% of makeup users cleanse them less than once a month and 22% never wash them at all. Yikes!
But seriously, do blush brushes and blenders need all that TLC? Um, absolutely. Bristles (and sponges, too) pick up oils and bacteria from our faces, products and the surrounding environment. They can quickly gather bad bacteria that could lead to breakouts and rashes. Sound gross? Because it is!
Washing doesn’t have to be a huge commitment, just 4 simple steps and a few extra minutes every week or two. Your fresh-faced glow will thank you. Cue up your faveplaylist and grab your tools:
Dampen. Run warm water over your brushes. Always angle them downward to avoid damaging the bristles.
Swirl. In the palm of your hand, combine several drops of water with a little baby shampoo or hand soap. Gently glide each brush in a circular motion over the mixture to break up and remove makeup and grime.
Dry. Carefully dab your brushes into the desired shape with a paper towel or cloth then lay them on a towel to dry.
