Instant Closet Makeover! Gamechanging Tips To Save Time, $$ And Stress

Saturday, August 20, 2016

Some studies show that the more you de-clutter, the happier and less stressed you feel. Try these tricks for revamping your fashions and organizing your space so looking good is no sweat.
Changing seasons is a fab time to rethink your space, clear out clutter and fall back in love with fashion you forgot you had buried in the back of your closet.  We interviewed celebrity organizer, Chantale Bordonaro, founder of Simplicity Source, for the fastest, easiest ways to streamline.

when organizing closets, the key is…
Always organize by your lifestyle first so the items you need are close at hand. Sort dressier items together and hang them further away, while moving more everyday casual items closer to the front where you can access them easily. Within those two categories, group like with likes: tops with tops, pants with pants. Finally, sort light to dark, just like a store!

my favorite quick trick is…
Changing assorted or thick hangers for uniform slim hangers is the most effective, cost-efficient way to do a closet make-over. It looks beautiful, saves space and prevents them from getting tangled with each other. Stick with one color — black — as other trend shades often change from year to year.

closet organizing tools worth splurging on…
Black slim hangers, belt/tie racks, baskets for scarves and hats and clear dividers to help keep small purses standing up.  If you’re building a new closet, be sure to add a shelf for folded clothes, a locked drawer for costume jewelry and a couple of valet rods to temporarily hang clothes.
Edit your clothes and accessories before purchasing any organizing items so you’ll know what you actually need.

folding is an art…
Hang pants by folding them in two, butt in back, legs on the left — it makes any row of pants look straight. Any clothes in drawers should be folded in uniformly square “packets”  and stacked one behind the other so they’re all visible, easy to spot and simple to pull out without creating a mess. When you stack clothes on top of each other, it’s impossible to find what you need without digging into the stack, especially when you’re in a rush.

my signature tip…
I tell all of my clients to make their closets look like a store. It makes you feel like you are shopping in your own home.  It’s a small thing that makes all the difference in how easy your space is to navigate and how much fun it is to shop what you already have. You’ll be surprised at how much you love what you already own when it’s not tossed in piles or crammed onto hanging rods.
